Welcome to the new Sanford Herald Sports blog. We want to develop multiple uses for this little spot of the Web, especially as the spring sports seasons get underway.
For starters, we’ll post photos, stories and content here in addition to what goes in print each day. We could have an occasional thought about the sports world beyond Sanford as well.
We encourage our readers and sports fans around Lee, Chatham, Moore and Harnett counties to submit pictures, posts and comments about anything from tee-ball to the big leagues in Raleigh or Charlotte.
Hooked a big bass? Took a rec league team photo? Got a pic or opinion from the stands at the ACC Tournament? Aced No. 14 at Sanford Golf Course? Make sure your card’s signed, then let us know. Your photos and more could even go from cyberspace to our old-fashioned newsprint.

I have a grandson who will graduate from Lee County High School in June. He has played on the varsity basketball team for three years. I am trying to make a scrapbook for his years of basketball. It is embarrasing to me the little I can get from the Sanford Herald. There are very few times that their games are on the front page of the paper. You have to look through the paper, two days after the game, to see the game listed with the out of county teams. Thursday night they had the winter sports award ceremony. There was no one from the paper there, and not a word about it in the paper. That is an important night for these kids. It seems that the local paper should be there. If there is lack of communication between the paper and the school, seems like something the paper would be interested in working on.
