Panther Creek rolled to a 70-29 win in a Tri-9 game at Lee County on Dec. 20. The Lady Catamounts went to 8-5, 3-3 while the Lady Jackets dropped to 3-6 and 0-5.

The Yellow Jackets hosted the Imps in a Tri-9 game on Dec. 18 with the Jackets pulling out a 56-55 victory. Dewaun McEachin led Lee County with 20 points and nine rebounds. Lee County (5-3, 3-1) rallied back from a seven-point deficit with a little more than four minutes left.

The Cavaliers and Yellow Jackets met on the hardwood for the first time this season on Dec. 15 at Lee County High School.

Brianna Taylor led Southern Lee with 13 points and 12 rebounds as the Lady Cavs beat their county rival 40-32. Erin Pickens added 10 points for Southern. De’ja Bland led Lee County with 11 points. Southern Lee improved to a 2-6 mark. The Lady Jackets dropped to 3-4.

The Jackets and Cavs battled back and forth before Lee County ended the game on a 14-6 run to win 54-51. Trevon Watson led the Jackets with 16 points and Noah Mellette led the Cavs with 16 points. Lee County improved to 4-2 while Southern Lee went to 2-5.

West Montgomery took both games of a Yadkin Valley Conference doubleheader at Chatham Central Friday, Dec. 14. The Bears led at halftime of both games but the Warriors spoiled Beach Night in Bear Creek winning the girls’ game 51-36 and the boys’ game 62-59.

The Cavaliers and Eagles tipped off the Cape Fear Valley basketball season on Dec. 11 in Lillington.

Southern Lee, the defending CFVC champs, won the girls game 32-26 behind 14 points by senior Brianna Taylor. The Cavs took the boys game, too, 60-43 with Juwon Jackson scoring 20 points for Southern.

The SASL (Sanford Area Soccer League) Blackout won the U12 Coed Class A Rec Championship, sponsored by UNC Orthopaedics, at the Eurosport Soccer Center in Efland on Nov. 10-11. The SASL Blackout went 4-0 in the tournament outscoring its opponents 14-5 to win the championship. Lee County and Apex opened their Tri-9 girls basketball seasons in Sanford on Dec. 4. Apex beat the Lady Yellow Jackets 64-43.

The ’99 SASL Sabres won the Lake Norman Fall Classic soccer tournament. They competed in the top division, the Legend Division, against teams from NC, SC, and WV.

The SASL Thunder won the U12 Boys Platinum Division title at the Greensboro Clash Soccer Tournament in November. The Thunder also won its regular season championship.

The Sanford Buzz 13U baseball team finished its fall season with an overall record of 29-3. The Buzz won five out of the eight tournaments they played in, including the USSSA NC State Championship and the USSSA Winter World Series. They finished the season ranked as the No. 1 USSSA 13U team in the nation. The Sanford Buzz players: Grant Johnson, Taylor Hall, Tyler Glenn, Jake Young, Ben Gregory, Tristan Marsh, Joshua Lett, Josh Parker, Jake Owen, Kevin Greenwood, Tyler Mauldin and Michael Frazer. Coaching staff: Vinnie Frazer, Jevon Wade, Jeff Johnson and Derrick Mauldin.
